Machines & Rube Goldberg Machine

Machines – they make work easier and there are many types of machines.

~ Ideal Machine – work input=work output and it doesn’t exist, there is always work lost do to friction.

~ Compound Machine – This machine is a combination of 2 or more simple machines.

~ Simple Machine – The work input is greater than the work output because of friction, it’s also a mechanical advantage.  They do work in one simple movement. Below are types of simple machines.

* Levers, Wheel and Axle, Pulleys, Inclined Planes, Ramp, Wedge, Screw.

Rube Goldberg Machine In Class

Image result for rube goldberg machine

In last science class,  we learned about Rube Goldberg machines and made one in class and tested it out. Our goal was to have a button pushed. Group by group everybody added a piece to the machine. Finally, the end of class came and we go to test the machine. My thoughts are that I think it worked, but it didn’t work. I say that because it worked and the button got pushed but the wrong ball rolled down the ramp. Overall I think it did work. Some examples of simple machines that we used in our machine is a ramp, and a lever.
